Returning from the trenches (don't ask ~ ), I note that the discussion here has quietly gravitated back to copper. How could that be?

This is the case even in FTTH, which recently was reincarnated as FTTP through the graces of three RBOCs, and FTTP uses VDSL in every release that I've seen to date.

Of course, this doesn't preclude fiber from going directly into a customer's premises, but thus far all I've seen has been longer reaches of fiber extended to a fiber access mux on that has been situated on a tract of land or in a building (usually MDUs) with xDSL copper lines (usually VDSL) going to the user's apartment or office.
