The wealthy are paying a higher % simply because of the widening gap between incomes:

No one should have to pay taxes on basic living expenses - in fact the tax free deduction could do with being raised from around $7K to something like $12K.

Personally I'd love to pay higher taxes - just send me a check and I'll pass a % of it along.
