You can prevent your shares from being shorted by moving them to a cash account. Only shares in a margin account can be borrowed for shorting. I have a margin brokerage account with Lombard and can designate individual shares as being margin or cash. I designated shares as such when I buy them and can also change their status at a latter date through a live broker. The down side is that shares designated as cash do not count towards margin requirements.
