I've read that Reagan had a lot of neo's in his cabinet, but that he fought them off. While they wanted to take a harder, militarily confrontational line towards the USSR, Reagan worked with Gorbachev in a "diplomatic" way. And it was successful.

Neo's call themselves neo conservatives. If it has negative connotations to you, then that's your personal value judgement. What do you want to call them?
