Gazprom needs investments in Uzbekistan

RosBusinessConsulting. Thursday, Jun. 17, 2004, 3:26 PM Moscow Time

Investments in the Uzbekistani economy are important to diversify the resource portfolio of Gazprom, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the company Yury Komarov told journalists at a briefing today. Investments in the country might reach over $1bn, but Gazprom plans to invest these funds in the long term, Komarov announced. According to him, initial Gazprom investments will total $300m. This amount is needed to develop the Shakhpaty field and some other northern Uzbekistani fields. The company plans to reach a 500bn-cubic-meter target of gas delivery from these fields at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2005. Production from the fields is estimated at 5-6bn cubic meters of gas per year.
