Hence the label "neocon," which has come to mean someone so far right of the political spectrum that he or she can't be considered a plain old conservative anymore.

I'm trying to decide if you are naive or downright dishonest.

The term Neoconservative was coined because this group of people started out as liberals, then became conservatives. They were Trotskyites, then Democrats, now Republicans.

Neocons are being seen as extremists because their philosophy is being examined closely for the first time. The Neocons have always been VERY extreme hawks on foreign policy. However, they used to slink around in the shadows, so they weren't studied very closely. The light of day is turning out to be very harsh for the Neocons.
