Apples and Oranges 1994:2004

One of the themes to be found in the deflationists' viewpoints is that the 1994 experience provides a model for the US economy's current state. The thinking goes, just as 1994 proved to be an inflation scare which was easily contained by the Fed, so too will 2004 prove to be. Let's compare these two periods using a couple of graphs to illustrate an alternate view - comparing 1994 to 2004 is like comparing apples to hand grenades:
