Aavid Announces Tellurex Sales & Marketing Agreement
LACONIA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1997--
Partnership Pairs Award-Winning Thermoelectric Module
Manufacturer and Leading Thermal Management Company
Aavid Thermal Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:AATT), the world's leader in providing thermal management solutions for power and digital electronics, announced today that it has formed a sales and marketing partnership with Tellurex Corporation of Traverse City, Michigan, a leading manufacturer and supplier of thermoelectric modules.
Effective immediately, this agreement pairs Aavid's extensive array of heat dissipation products and thermal analytical services with Tellurex's patented Z-MAX(R) high-performance thermoelectric coolers (TECs), often referred to as solid-state refrigerators. TECs utilize a series of dissimilar metal ``chips'' held and oriented in a specific order to form a heat removal side (cold) and a heat rejection side (hot). When an electrical current is applied to this configuration the cold side will cool below ambient temperature only if the hot side is properly cooled. TECs require at least one high efficiency thermal solution per module to ensure proper heat removal. Aavid's leading edge heat removal technology, including bonded fin air cooled products and HiContact(TM) liquid cooled solutions, will be utilized with Tellurex's TECs to provide customers with many dynamic, new, environmentally-friendly cooling solutions.
TECs are used in a wide variety of applications such as refrigerated picnic coolers, medical equipment, electronic enclosure cooling, mini bars and laser diode arrays. In 1996 the global TEC market was $114.6 million and is projected to reach $203.3 million by 2000 with units ranging from $20 to $25 in small quantities.
``The sales and marketing agreement between Tellurex and Aavid offers both companies enhanced business opportunities in new and diverse markets,'' said Chris Soule, Aavid's instrumentation and controls industry manager. ``By combining Aavid's resources and expertise in thermal design with Tellurex's technical expertise in high efficiency TECs, we expect to better serve existing customers by providing a wider variety of new, highly advanced products for heat dissipation in existing and future TEC applications.''
``Tellurex is pleased to be allied with Aavid in the sales and promotion of thermal solutions that combine our respective technological strengths,'' said Charles Cauchy, president of Tellurex Corporation. ``We are confident that this new partnership will elevate thermal management technologies to a new level.''
About Tellurex Corporation
Based in Traverse City, Michigan, Tellurex Corporation is the technological leader in thermoelectric cooling and heating. From consumer products to laser diodes, lab and medical equipment, military and space hardware, telecommunications and industrial use, thermoelectric cooling has come to be recognized as an elegant solution for both micro and macro solid state cooling applications. Unique among thermoelectric coolers available in today's global market is the Z-MAX line of TECs manufactured by Tellurex. The patented metallurgical process employed in the production of Z-MAX modules results in unsurpassed performance. Z-MAX high performance TECs represent the culmination of a unique ``press and sinter'' manufacturing process pioneered by Tellurex. The result is a module that is more efficient, more reliable, and inherently stronger than its conventional counterparts.
Aavid Company Background
Aavid Thermal Technologies serves a highly diversified range of markets, principally in North America, Europe and the Far East. 1996 sales, which totaled approximately $107 million, were driven by the principal industries served by Aavid including: computers (32%); modeling and analysis software (23%); industrial controls (14%); communications (12%); instruments, including power supplies (12%); and consumer; including audio, automotive and business equipment (7%).
Aavid is the world's leading provider of thermal management for dissipating potentially damaging heat in digital and power electronics products. Aavid's thermal products division is evolving from a North American thermal component manufacturer, to a worldwide total solutions provider.
Aavid is also the world leader in sophisticated modeling and analysis software. Design engineers use Fluent's CFD (computational fluid dynamics) based software to optimize the design of products and manufacturing processes in a wide range of industries including combustion, chemical process, electronics, aerospace and food processing. The Fluent software models products in development in detail, faster than physical prototyping and testing, at an earlier stage in the design cycle, for less money, and with lower risk than traditional product and process design and development practices involving iterative design, prototype and test cycles.
