A lot of the flips are not changes over the decades from one idea to another, but changes from one idea to another and then sometimes back that take place in a few years or sometimes a matter of months or maybe even quicker.

I do think the Kerry's flip-flops have been exaggerated by many on the right. That's the nature of the political process. One side will always exaggerate the negatives of the other side. But there is a reality there to exaggerate and not just the usual reality that all politicians tend to be evasive or shifting in their policy statements.
