Alcatel and Finmeccanica said they plan to merge their satellite businesses into new joint ventures -- one to focus on satellite assembly, the other to focus on satellite services. In total, the units are expected to have 2.15 billion euros of annual revenue. EADS, which tried a merger of its own with Alcatel in 2002, has had to cut jobs at its space unit, hurt by a downturn in the market for commercial satellites.>>
