But I do find incredible pessimism in many quarters, fueled by media reports that are far from accurate. There are tons of good things happening in Iraq, yet they do not receive the attention they deserve.

Things are simply not as bad as they are depicted.

And, yes, I think it is possible that Pollack might have shaded his views a bit because of an upcoming election and the possibility that he might get a job with the Kerry administration if Kerry is elected. If you don't think that's possible, you are hopelessly naive. There is a lot of positioning taking place in all kinds of places, in all kinds of ways.

I still think he's among the best analysts around. But I put on a triple duty magnum strength Model X Spin Filter starting at about the time the candidate's identity is a certainty.

You would do well to do so, too.
