OT. BOOKWORM BUBBA COMES CLEAN FOR CASH

June 18, 2004 -- THERE are words for people who do inti mate things for money. "President" is not one that usually comes to mind.
Bill Clinton, who while in office refused with every ounce of his being to tell the truth, has now put a price tag on that rare commodity.

In an overly-hyped act of self-revelation, Clinton is about to answer a mystery that he must believe has kept everyone in America up at night in breathless anticipation.

Why did the president of the United States, leader of the free world, have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky — then lie to his wife, to his daughter, to the American people, and perhaps even to himself?

"I did something for the worst possible reason — just because I could," Bill says to Dan Rather, giving us a taste of what's to come.

Thanks for sharing, guy. But you blew it.

That explanation — because it was there, because I could, because I was horny — was already apparent to any 13-year-old boy, which, sadly, represents the maturity level attained by our otherwise intelligent former leader.

I have a better question for Bill: Why did you choose to start telling the truth now? Why relive your tired psychodrama?

Bill won't admit this one. But it should seem as obvious as ex-intern Monica Lewinsky. He told the truth because he could — make a $12 million advance for his memoir.

And a man who doles out truth for money is a moral prostitute.
