Well folks...this has been a day! Just got home and read of Hubert's experience (hope to see you tonight on the news, Hubert) guess neither of us helped the stock!
Spike and I were having a wonderful and very spiritual experience, dancing around our ADGI shrine in the yard. After about 15 or 20 minutes, we were joined by Lupi, Francisco and Maria who had been picking lemons in the orchard on the ranch behind this one. I explained to them why we were dancing in the buff and in circles around the orange crate and surf board...and they agreed that it looked like great fun. After shedding some of their extra clothes, they joined in. This added a delightful touch of the international to our incantations!
It was probably about 45 minutes later that my "wicked neighbor from the West" showed up with the INS & a contingent of sheriffs ...pandemonium broke out!! Lupi & Francisco took off at a run in opposite directions...Maria didn't have a chance! She's pretty old and they grabbed her with no great effort.
Spike had begun to bark wildly as soon as he spotted "John Law"...now, with two of them chasing me and one of them holding Maria, he was snarling and trying to tear their ankles to shreads. (Hubert, your shark suit sounds pretty comforting given the alternative!) What I had deemed comfortable and appropriate in the privacy of my own yard, became a real liability once hostile strangers were introduced into the picture! After my capture, I was offered a "police issue" blanket (this was a subtle form of torture since its very hot here today) and hauled off to the station to be charged with indecent exposure, aiding & abetting illegal aliens and, get this, suspicion of performing public rituals (I *was* on my own property!) that ran counter to the public good. (Hope the judge owns ADGI, then maybe he/she will understand.)
Anyway, it took me most of the afternoon to get bailed out, Maria is on a bus headed South and I am about to leave here to retrieve Spike from the custody of Animal Regulations.
Guess, we better try a different tact tomorrow. Chrispy teddy bears and au naturale dances didn't seem to either "do the trick" for ADGI or add much to our own personal reputations as "stalwart citizens"! (Not that I had ever been mistaken for one before.)
Stephanie, hope you made out better than we did!
Let me know what the next plan is...!
