Tenchusatsu, RE: "because they know we don't have the guts to."

That's a really interesting notion. It takes more guts to face complicated issues head-on and face them.

Out of curiosity, where do you get your notion from?

We shouldn't be complacent, but we also shouldn't be so trigger happy that we use ineffective action over effective intelligence.

RE: "But let's not kid ourselves when it comes to figuring these terrorists out."

bin Laden has made it clear what his goals are. There are two parts to it. The first part involves a lengthly perspective on anti-globalization & anti-corporations that he spouts. This is the part that appeals to many Muslims who are tired of arrogant Americans imposing our American culture (McDonalds, Hollywood) onto their culture.

The second part he spouts is a highly violent and sensational message to kill 4 million Americans - this is the part we hear on the news. If his message only contained the second part, he would get no air time by moderate Muslims. But because his message contains the first part, he has many sympathizers.

His ability to foster new recruits is unlimited, when we act without thinking. The best way to combat terrorism, is to remove the tools and remove the capability to foster new recruits.

One concerning item is how the first part of his message (anti-globalization) exactly coincides with the ELF environmental organization's goals (anti-globalization and anti-corporations).

One of the bigger risks the USA has, would be if bin Laden's group infiltrates ELF and instigates them.

We better understand terrorists and terrorism so we can prevent them from sprouting and destroying this country.
