Unless I'm mistaken, @siliconinvestor.com email, like portfolios and charts, is something that didn't require a paid membership to make use of.

I've gotten similar complaints that people subscribed so they could use the charts, but the availabiliy of charts has never been a subscription-only feature that I'm aware of.

In any event, it's a business decision that makes sense business-wise on multiple levels:

1. It's only a cost center. No revenues come from email, whether directly or indirectly.

2. There are companies in existence who do web-based email already for free. We have no business being in their market. All we can do in that market is lose money.

3. Even if we decided to stay in that market and make it part of a paid subscription, our pricing structure is such that it would make no sense for anyone to pay our rather steep entry fee just to have web-based email. Not when they can have it for free elsewhere or get a far stronger version for a nominal fee.

Without e-mail SI is just another chat group.

IMO, SI should've never been in the email business unless it was making it a perk for subscribing or was charging for it ala-carte. And even then it would've been questionable, especially when having to pay a 3rd-party provider for it.
