Yes, thoughts and beliefs are private. But it is a Natural Law that when your personal opinion runs afoul of the conscience of society as it is expressed in laws enacted to preserve rights and freedoms...that consequences will ensue. For instance, pretend that your "conscience" tells you not to rent your hotel room to a woman, or a Christian...or whatever. If you act on that impulse to discriminate you will incur the righteous response of a society that protects her members from blatant racism, sexism, and the like.

It is a free country. Nobody can tell you how to think....but we do have an interest in how you ACT. Your conscience is not strictly a private matter when it urges you to act against the public interest of justice for all. The first responsibility of the State is to protect her citizens from abusive treatment. You seem to think that your personal beliefs give you carte blanche justification to do as you will. But of course, your understanding on the issue is minimal at best.
