KT, have you read Ron Chernov's biogrpahhy of Alexander Hamilton? I am in the middle of it and like it a lot, but I don't know enough history to know how carefully it is written. The one thing I did pick up on is that Chernov praises Washington for declining a salary and asking only for expenses; my understanding that his expense account was so huge that the next time, the Continental Congress just voted him a salary.
