Let's make it simple........there were members of the Contras who once ruled under Samoza. In spite of the fact, there were members of the Contras who did not rule under Samoza, its not unfair to say that the Contras had once ruled.

I'll also make it simple. Somoza wasn't a contra nor where most of his senior officials and cronies. There where whole segments of the contras that had previously engaged in armed rebellion against Somoza, and many other parts of the contras that had nothing to do with Somoza. It is inaccurate to say that the Contras once ruled Nicaragua.

"One of the contra organizations was lead by a former Sandinista."

Which one?

The Democratic Revolutionary Alliance (ARDE) and its armed wing, the Sandino Revolutionary Front (FRS). It was led by Edén Pastora who was also called Comandante Cero. He lead the seizure of Somoza's palace.

Okay. How were human rights under those members of the Contras who ruled prior to the Sandanistas?

None of them ruled prior to the Sandinistas. The closest to ruling was probably Enrique Bermúdez who was formerly a colonel under Somoza. He was an important figure but he wasn't in charge. At that time human rights where not well respected. But Nicaragua was never ruled by Enrique Bermúdez or any of the other contras and the human rights situation in Nicaragua was bad before Somoza and during the Sandinistas reign as well.
