....OFF TOPIC....
Glenn: "Well, I don't equate not giving voice to one's opinion with humility. Apathy, intimidation, arrogance etc. can also be reasons for not giving voice to one's opinion. Humility to my mind is the appreciation of one's own limitations to know the truth. Equally, it is an appreciation for the value of other voices."
gru: i didn't mean to equate 'not voicing one's opinion' to humility. rather, i meant that it is a feature of humility. it is true that there is more to humility than simply 'not voicing one's opinion'. and as you point out, there are exceptions to everything (almost).

Glenn: "Well, I guess it could be construed that way. However, to my mind propaganda contains with it a certain intention to deceive ... or to state one's rationale one way, while one's true feelings belie another. To sincerely debate in respectful dialogue, even though one has one's one beliefs and opinions, with respect for truth, and the perspective of "the other", is the very antithesis of propaganda IMO."
gru: i'm not so sure that propaganda contains an intention to deceive. probably deception is often used, but only as a tool to persuade. propaganda may be espoused by those that believe in their message.
i wasn't finding fault with your prior post. i agreed with it. you attempt to see the biggest picture possible, giving way to the possibility that you may be wrong at any turn. and seeing the big picture objectively is a feat that is almost impossible to accomplish.
subjectively, the sun rises and sets... objectively, it doesn't.
