911 was an Al-Qaida event meant to set the stage for future events. Just as Oklahoma City bombing was an event meant to signal the start of something. The Oklahoma City bombing actually had the reverse effect. Hundreds of thousands of Americans were participating in weekend wilderness gatherings and getting organized in anti-government groups. It was largely fanatical fantacy roll playing. Suddenly, they all decided to go back to their day jobs when faced with the horrific reality of the Oklahoma City bombing.

911 was different though because the stake holders do not have day jobs that are incompatible with supporting the event. So, it signaled the beginning of a major shift in world events. The reaction of the United States began with a declaration of war on the Taleban who were harboring the Al-Qaida in Afghanistan. The world witnessed how serious the USA was at hoeing out the seeds of future 911s.

We were already addressing the Regime of Saddam Hussein who was a declared enemy of the USA and the only country organized enough (after Afghanistan) to be the spearhead behind which Al-Qaida could gather and has.

It is counter productive to say that actions in Iraq is laying seeds for more 911s. The seeds for future 911s lie in the efficacy of Al-Qaida and Al-Qaida type of organizations or individuals. to the extent that they believe terrorist attacks on the USA will result in a world wide effort to annihilate the West ... they will be forth coming ... to the extent that they believe little or nothing would come of such an attack, they will with draw.

Part of our job is to promote the belief that such attacks on innocent people will not advance their cause. By promoting the thinking that they are likely, we are asking for it, and the enemy will effectively accomplish something in their efforts (future 911s), you are virtually pumping for their success.
