Joan,

It always informative to read your posts.

I too have a large and increasing cash position and am wondering how I can enhance the derisory negative real yields handed to me by my broker. Any ideas? Is there a short term (less than a year) CEF bond fund you recommend? The only one I could see was BQT which apparently has a yield of…drum roll…0.26%. How about one year bank CDs?

Has anyone had any success negotiating directly with their broker over rates? Mike?

In addition SIPC insurance only covers 100k in cash but up to 500k in shares so that seems to be another reason to trash cash and diversify.

BTW In what form are your Uranium holdings – shares or the commodity itself? I’ve been sitting on CCJ and DEN.TO this last year awaiting LTCG status. It still seems the surest play I can see – if I don’t find anything else I may just buy more CCJ rather than continue to subsidize my broker.
