Because diplomats usually have national aircraft for transportation...not chartered aircraft.
I would expect that of Saudi diplomats and gov't officials, yes. I don't know it for a fact, but I'd be surprised were it not true. They certainly have enough of our money to afford them. :-)

And why the rush to get out?
Protection? Fear because they were Arabs and Muslims and they had a strong suspicion who was behind 911- -Muslim extremists?

Remember, the OK City bombing was initially blamed on Muslim extremists. It was not till later that was shown to be wrong. They would remember that and want to get while the getting was good.

Did the Saudis know that 15 of the 19 were Saudis?
Prove that and you've got another war. :-)

If they did.....

And with Iraq sitting on another 25% of the oil...we're finally getting to the heart of the Iraq war. Terrorism was just an excuse to make the move on Saddam.
More complicated than that, I think. Much more complicated. The US wanted a base in a strategic area of the world. It wanted effective control of the Arabian Gulf. The Jewish Lobby wanted an enemy gone and replaced with as friendly a regime as possible. And that base puts pressure on other ME nations to leave Israel alone. Oil- -enough to face down the Saudis and their reserves. And humongous reconstruction contracts.
