As for the short interest, that's for last month. We should be getting new information soon in the next couple of days. But again, we get the information only once a month and I am sure it will be old information as the number as of June 12 has already changes! For example, I am sure there was quite a bit of short-covering yesterday.
As per the article you posted- Analysts project anywhere from 67 million to 120 million USB flash drives will be sold next year, up from about 23 million in 2003.
If this is happens and we assume 100mm flash drives, we are talking about a huge potential- 100mm x $50 (average stree value) $5B just from jump drive!! Since Sandisk and Toshiba are the only players with 4Gbit monolithic chip, I wouldn't be surprised if they have at least 40-50% of that market. Since next year's revs for SNDK are only estimated at 2.25B, there is somewhat a disconnect.
