I'd say making money by preaching is quite the norm. Is it hypocritical? It depends on what they do with it. Joyce Meyer is very forthright with her feelings about her money. She says the Lord rewards those who preach the word. She has no qualms about using the money.

The Lord wants you to be successful and rich. There is nothing wrong with having money. If you are fiscally responsible, reazlize the money is a gift from God, and don't worship the $$ or the stuff you buy with it, money is quite OK.

You cannot serve 2 masters. You will love one and hate the other.
