”I have said repeatedly that natural rights do not trump other rights...”“Freedom of conscience is a natural right.”… “We were talking about your freedom of conscience trumping natural rights.”

These contradictory statements are all yours. I realize that you qualify them when you reference the conduct that may flow from a concept of rights.

However, I see that you are now recognizing ‘Freedom of Conscience’ as a natural right. This is fantastic.

Real Freedom is composed of the tripartite enmeshment of 1) Freedom of Conscience, 2) Personal liberty, and 3) Justice for all.

When any one of these components is raised to a level where in it could be viewed as ‘trumping’ one or both of the others, we find ourselves in a quagmire of litigious contention that irreconcilably constrains the freedom of some while shielding others from the inevitable reaction.

This is why we need to take some time to understand the very relevant difference between natural rights and the derivative rights granted by society.

”But ACTING on your conscience in violation of the rights of others is NOT a natural right.

I have avoided dealing with this somewhat rational statement up to now because it is incomplete. It is directed at using one component of freedom to trump others. Your favorite would be to use anti-discrimination (an aspect of personal liberty) to trump freedom of conscience. You accuse me of holding the reverse ‘trumping’ perspective, which I don’t.

The key is to view the components of Freedom as inseparable. Then, the outcome you and I both seek is achievable. No one’s natural rights ‘trump’ another’s natural rights.
