I have no problem with the word obsessive. The two are typically used interchangeably. They are often thought of as synoyms. I tend to use compulsive to describe conduct and obsessive to describe a mental preoccupation. But that may simply be a personal preference.

You are correct in that 'compulsive' is behavioral and 'obsessive' is mental. Those who use them interchangebly are incorrect. Though they often appear together as symptoms.
