I see the threat of a corps size "raid" as a real possibility if the Mullahs won't cave.

A raid on what? Iran is almost four times the size of Iraq, and the terrain is far more difficult. We have no way to be sure we even know where the key materials and facilities are. They are probably - almost certainly - spread around.

I have no doubt at all that the US military could go anywhere it wants in Iran, and grab any piece of territory. Holding territory, and maintaining lines of supply, are much more complicated questions.

I haven't got any solutions, but I can't say I'm delighted with any of the ones I see on the table. The sad thing is that the Iranians can and will actually make a superficially reasonable case for needing a deterrent: after all, an aggressive, openly hostile nuclear-armed rival has already seized territory on either side of them. If Pakistan, India, and Israel can have the bomb, who are we to say Iran can't?

That argument won't get much credence here, but it will seem fairly sensible to a lot of Iranians.
