LNG to the U.S.
MOSCOW -- Gazprom is in talks with foreign partners on offering liquefied natural gas supplies into the United States via swap deals, a newspaper reported Thursday.

Gazprom is already working on plans for a $10 billion LNG venture on the Barents Sea to process gas from the giant Shtokman field, which will mainly supply the U.S. market but is not expected to come on stream until the next decade.

But Alexander Medvedev, head of Gazprom's wholly owned export unit Gazexport, told Vedomosti that LNG deliveries into the United States via swaps could be possible by the turn of the year. "We can begin deliveries of LNG into the United States before our own gas liquefaction project begins working," he said. "We hope to gain access to supplies of liquefied gas via swaps of our own pipeline gas. We are pursuing talks with several potential partners.
