It is sad that Americans are accepting the attack on our freedoms without much of a fight. You are correct that the "fears" by Americans lead us down a dangerous path. But this is EXACTLY what the neocons are counting on. Neocons believe people are sheep and that they must be led and that war brings to the sheep insecurity which then in return gives the government - in this case the neocons power which they under normal instances would never be given.

That is scary enough, but many of the neocons who themselves are not religous, still use religion to give them the power to go to war. The Bush comment that he takes his marching orders from a higher source should make the hair on your neck stand up!! The saddest thing for me to watch is that even Republicans who know better seem unwilling to stand up to this evil.
