Because any bum will tell you that living without meaning for even a decade or two makes suicide a sweet option.

I've known more wealthy types to off themselves.

After several trillion years of living without any consequence of death or disablement (i.e. without meaning because all choices are equally vapid)...then what?

Then you morph onto another planet that does not have liberal abortion laws and try your hand again. Perhaps there is a big score card that judges you on courage and acts of kindness you have performed.

Bet 331 trillion dollars on one blackjack hand? GO FOR IT! How exciting! You will still have a virgin to eat

I've never understood the fascination with virgins as they're usually difficult and there is sometimes a mess after.

The only way to stop it would be to find a way to force God to let you die by appeal to His pompous self interest. I can't remember the name of that Asimov story. I think he beat God in the end.

The consequences of a belief in an afterlife can lead to some ridiculous conclusions and horrid actions, but a dry shallow belief that denies any super-natural aspects to humanity is equally diminishing.
