Latin America Is Growing Impatient With Democracy

See Amy Chua's book "World On Fire" for more background on this and similar topics about the third world we're not hearing a lot about, but probably should, instead of incessant reports about Israelis and Palestinians for example. At the root of the problem in many cases is ethnic minorities who hold and control the economies of such countries.

Latin America will grow in importance for the US with respect to Old Europe as we go forward. All one has to do is look at the number of Latinos living here in the US, and not one of them is strapping on suicide belts.

I personally consider the Arab/Muslim countries a lost cause in terms of becoming our allies or adapting to democracy in the world, at least in any near term - it's only because of their oil that we're mixed up with them at all. Latin America on the other hand will become truly important and we don't want them as our enemies.

For another point of view on this, see #reply-20249389 [and a few others nearby by Steve Rogers.]
