Scott,

Maybe this thread will come alive again now that the access line leasing issue has been settled (well, almost).

Its apparent that the LECS now feel somewhat secure in expanding their fiber to the home, or hub, as SBC's announcement for a $6B capex commitment over the next few years would indicate. I have long maintained that the next big thing to hit the tech world will be a fully-switched fiber optic network that will finally give the consumer a secure hyper-link for voice and video. It would surely ignite a huge revival of the equipment stocks and pave the way for all kinds of spending on hardware and software.

The problem for me is, that since the big turndown in telecommunications stocks, I haven't paid any attention to what's going on in the area, technlogy wise. Who's building the leading edge equipment, and have any inroads been made in developing ultra-high speed optical switches? Companies like LU and JDSU come to mind, but who is best positioned in your mind to benefit from this spending commitment by the LECs?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
