How do you reconcile the idea of wintelco with Microsoft's Multi Protocol Routing (MPR) and their plans for Microsoft MPR running on PC's to compete head to head with Cisco's network products?

You are right that they are tackling the directory services problem but I believe they are attempting to take a more independent route.

intel's and msft dependence on cisco for ios directory services to make active directory work in nt is just what intel merced needed to run 50,000 nt programs on unix risc like hp's. wintel is now wintelco...co is for cisco i think.
wintel isn't dead it just added cisco...wintelco is what is next.
