A benevolent society does not guarantee the best for all, but it does, within its means, seek to provide a decent baseline for all. Social justice, in this case, means to seek to "socialize" misfortune, by providing, as the insurer of last resort, against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, especially when children are involved. By ameliorating oppressive circumstances, we contribute to the liberty of individuals, insofar as they seek to improve their lot. Is this the sort of thing you have in mind?
