We had clearly violated strict neutrality long before we entered the war, precisely because we preferred the British to the Nazis. Hitler did not have the immediate aim of conquering the United States, only of establishing hegemony in Europe. It is true, his declaration of war gave the pretext that he needed to mobilize against the Nazis.

As I mentioned earlier, in a police state, surely a substantial part of the populace is being liberated. Whether the term is apt is subject to scrutiny.

I agree that we did not colonize Germany. It was in such a state, we could have.

We invaded and occupied Italy. Did it attack us, or pose much of a threat? Anyway, even David Kay thought Iraq posed a sufficient threat to justify getting rid of Hussein. And why are you so concerned with the fate of a brutal dictator, anyway? We did the Iraqis a favor.
