<question is, is it sometimes necessary to embrace the lesser evil, in order to avoid the greater?> This is the position Bush has taken as well -- you are in alignment with current US policy. This is at the root of the misdirection of our policy. Using the actions of Saddam or bin Laden to justify our adoption of evil behavior as a matter of policy in a "war on terror" is simply un-American. Our values require that we NEVER engage in evil no matter what our goals. It is as simple as that. And what we have now is foreign and domestic policy that says evil is ok if it serves a greater purpose -- this promotion of evil is itself an attack on the values that set America apart from the rest of the world. The publicity about torture is simply the logical conclusion of what has become an evil US foreign policy.
