What are you, kidding? The military may always do as it wishes. The contract is supposed to protect the soldier. Having a contract come to an end is a negotiating tool. There are various re-enlistment bonuses. All of these become meaningless when the military disregards the contract and forces soldiers into continued service, which is what is happening now.
