Milbank can be as critical of Bush as he wants. Doesn't make him an "independent journalist." In fact, I would say than none of the major media - NY Times, LA Times, WashPost, NBC, CBS, etc - is any more independent, non-partisan, objective or whatever you want to call it than the blogs.

Interesting that the word "independent" bothered you. I used it simply to poke a finger in Bill's eye.

As for the argument that all newspapers have a point of view, that argument has been beaten into the proverbial dirt here. At some level, it's, of course, true. But now only as a shibboleth. It's far more important just how strongly a given newspaper/journalist adheres to journalistic professional ethics, of which one part of the code has to be to get the story right, to argue the case based on the best evidence and include a good rendition of the opponents' arguments in your own.

On that basis, your list of major media so outstrips the one's you leave off--Washington Times, Fox News, et al, as to be downright embarrassing.
