You should be embarrassed for yourself........

Well, unfortunatley stereotypes do have their orgin in the real world in some way or another. I'm part Italian, I know the stereotypes. I wish it wasn't the case, but as I look back on my lifetime, I see a lifetime of neglect on the part of our government (mainly Republicans) in solving some of our most important problems. Our oil dependce being in the forefront. Most industrialized countries have raised their gasoline taxes greatly (many times what the U.S. taxes petrol at) to conserve energy (I paid $6.00/gal for gas in England in 2001, probably $8.00/gal now). The Republicans won't go near that idea, and in fact use it against the Dems if they ever mention it. Also, the Dems have repeatedly tried to raise the gas milage standards, only to be thrwated by Republican/corporate efforts. The last time we had gas milage standards was 1987, well before the Gulf War, and we've dropped 2 mpgs since then. Do the Republicans care? Apparently not. Just last year, the Dems proposed a very modest increase in gas milage standards, that was shot down by the Republicans, and this during a war time. I know you don't like facing the facts, but they speak for themself in this case loud and clear. It was back in the days of Democratic control of our government that we at least tried to conserve energy and tried to raise gas milage standards. I know, I've been alive throughout.

If this country was serious about solving our energy problems, we would have embarked on a plan to end our oil dependence after the first Gulf War. Perhaps the technology wasn't there back then, but now it is, and the only thing preventing us from making our economy much more energy efficient and much less dependent on foreign oil is obstructionism at the highest levels of our society (i.e. our Republcian controlled government and corporate entities).

Another problem we can thank the Republicans for not solving, as it benefits an important constituency, is the cost of prescription drugs. Are we allowed ot import less expensive drugs from other countries? No. Why not. Oh, the Republicans who control our government says we can't. Aren't these the "get the government off your back people"? Apparently, they don't want the government off our backs when it would hurt their donors like the drug industry.
