I know the Democrats aren't exactly Greens. But, to their credit they have supported modest improvements in vehicle milage standards, only to be rebuffed by the oil cabalist Republicans. Just last year, right around the time we attacked Iraq, the Democrats (hoping to capitalize on the increased attention to oil issues with the war imminent) tried to pass a modest ammendment to the energy bill that would have raised milage standards by something like 1% over the next few years. But, even that ever so modest proposal was rejected by the Republicans. It's obvious, the Republicans have a plan to support the interests of big oil at every turn. It's a matter of not giving an inch in the debate. Even though a 1% increase would be relatively insignificant, they didn't want to set a precedent of raising milage standards.

I drive a Saturn station wagon that gets 30 MPGs, above the national average. My townhouse is a modest 1,100 square feet. I'm definitely not a big consumer of energy. I do opt for green electricty from my local utility. I try to do my part. My next vehicle might be a hybrid or diesel (so I can run it on BioDiesel and really kick the Mid East oil habit).
