Bubba, it seems that Taiwan would be able to create the world's biggest flood if the megalomaniacs running China decide to attack Taiwan: Message 20229432 16 June 2004,

A Chinese general has denounced a US suggestion that Taiwan's military target China's Three Gorges dam.

Lieutenant General Liu Yuan said on Wednesday that any strike on the world's biggest hydropower project would kill thousands of civilians and would lead to war.

In its annual report to Congress on China's military power, the Pentagon suggested in May that Taiwan target the dam as a deterrent.

The US Department of Defence believes such a threat would stop any Chinese invasion of the island, which split from the mainland in 1949 and is still regarded by Beijing as a breakaway province....contd... >

That would certainly cause some downstream problems [literally, not just economically] for Hu Jintao and his burgeoning cash flow.

The Ruahihi Canal collapsed and washed away a lot of dirt a couple of decades ago. I had written to the company building it to suggest they line it with bitumen I was selling to prevent excessive pore water pressure buildup, increased weight, slumping, piping and collapse. They didn't bother replying and I didn't really care as the sale was trivial and I was really just doing them a favour.

I'm writing to you and Yiwu to offer similar low-cost advice, but just as the Ruahihi builders ignored my generous offer of help, the old 'ignorance is bliss' syndrome will no doubt remain.

Since I don't live downstream of the Three Gorges Dam, [other than economically], I'm not particularly worried. China will cop the majority of the catastrophe of war with Taiwan. I guess they haven't heard of Karma in China, being an Indian [I think] concept.

Just as India has voted itself poor for half a century, China might vote itself poor for another half century by deciding to go for the monkey way of running the world.

Okay, it's true that China wouldn't strictly be voting itself poor, as the proletariat of China get to work for Hu Jintao and the boss class, just like any common slaves do in any old kleptocratic dominance hierarchy and don't have a vote. But the bosses would presumably have a bit of a poll among themselves as to whether it would be a jolly good show to show the blighters in Taiwan who's in charge. So that's a sort of vote.

Just as China probably loaned North Korea a tactical nuke or two to keep the USA, Japan and North Korea, not to mention Taiwan, somewhat preoccupied, I suppose the USA could sell a tactical nuke to Taiwan, with the gps coordinates of the lakeside face of the dam pre-loaded. That would certainly make a big enough hole in it to end electricity supplies, and cause a bit of preoccupation in Beijing.

It'll be interesting to see just how much of a catastrophe China's bosses are interested in creating. They have nukes themselves, so there could be quite a depopulating in the event of major conflict.

Demand for Saudi oil would drop suddenly! The price of oil would go into free fall.

As King George II says, you are either with him or against him. He showed Uday, Qusay and Saddam what happens if you are against him. Osama is still in business, but not having much in the way of success. He can't even blow up an embassy these days, having to make do with Spanish train stations. How pathetic. It's going on three years since the Twin Towers.

I suppose they could be working up to a simultaneous destruction of 100 apartment buildings across the USA [having delivered thousands of explosive suitcases or cardboard cartons over the years and stacked them in three or four rented apartments in each building.

I wonder which floors they'd target. The top floor would be no good. They'd need to be about the 10th to destroy the columns supporting the structure and cause a cascading collapse the same as the Twin Towers. Any lower and the columns might be too strong to damage easily enough [just in the original Twin Towers attack].

Personally, I think China and Taiwan, not to mention the USA and everyone else, should concentrate on buying those CDMA2000 phragmented photon cyberphones which suffuse the aether with peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love. If the Three Gorges Dam is busted, the people who have cyberphones downstream will get them all wet and they won't work. That would be really annoying. Even if they manage to keep them dry as they get washed away, they wouldn't have electricity outlets to recharge them.

Make love, not war.
