Dell'Oro Group Releases 2Q 1997 Report on Shared Hub and
LAN Switch Markets; Bay Networks, 3Com, Cisco and
Intel benefit from aggressive shift to 100 Mbps.

"The second quarter was marked by a bifurcation in the Ethernet
LAN switch market," said Tam Dell'Oro, founder of the Dell'Oro
Group. "Data center switches are rapidly shifting to 100 Mbps,
while 10 Mbps is being relegated to the desktop. As desktop
switches, 10 Mbps boxes are being stripped of features, and
price is falling through the floor."
