The groups who are opposed to abortions should fund the medical care of pregnant women and babies and support through childhood either through adoption or family financial and social support the children those mothers are ill equipped to raise, particularly those who are born with life-long medical problems.

Under that reasoning, people opposed to murder should be responsible for the lives of the people they save.

If the fetus could live outside the womb without extraordinary measures being taken, I think that is is killing a human being. From what I read, there seems to be a lot of that going on.

I just watched James Dobson, founder of "Focus on the Family," give a speech in favor of the marriage amendment on CSPAN. It was given at the DC press club. I had never seen him before, and now understand his appeal. He is very mild mannered, a MD, not a Preacher, and comes at the issue from the POV of the children.

He makes an excellent case that the purpose of marriage is to raise children, and that it takes first place over all other concerns. The SS studies show that the children always do better with both parents there, and wants us to foster that, and do nothing to make it worse than it is.

He claims the Scandinavian experience shows that changing the marriage to other than man and woman leads to an even worse breakdown of marriage than we presently have.
