Did he provide a good explanation of how marriage is essential for that? I'll bet he didn't. Because it isn't.

He said that marriage was essential in making sure that the men and women stayed together. That out of wedlock children had multiple times higher single parent situations. Therefore we should do everything possible to encourage marriage, and discourage out of wedlock births.

His view was that opening up the Marriage vows to multiple relationships was a step on the road to ruin. That the increase in out of wedlock and single parent situations in Norway and Sweden prove it.

His answer to the "marriage is broken anyway" argument is that cars kill a lot of people, but we don't get rid of them, we make them better.

He comes at it from the "what is the best way to protect the raising of children in our society?" He is very smart to keep it off a "Christian" situation.
