You may console yourself that it is not new at all. I have seen even worse. Why there are people here who long to take things off SI, and to get personally,and irresponsibly, involved with people they do not like. Hounding a person on the net is one thing, but finding out their address, and hounding them in real life, is, I think you will agree, really sick. There are people on SI who will do unimaginably nasty things to other posters- but luckily there aren't very many of them, and the only sensible thing to do is ignore them as best we can.
Most people in the world are quite nice, and if SI is a rather strange sample, with slightly more awful people than the rest of the world, I think we can blame that on the net, which attracts some very angry people, and gives them an outlet for their anger which they cannot find in the real world. |
