Oh, yes we do have enough data to say that marriage is the key to successful child raising. Every other arrangement is worse. The numbers are overwhelming.

We have no numbers on most of the potential variables. We have statistics on which family status produces better results on average. That's it. That's all we know. The superficiality of that borders on mindlessness.

If married couples do indeed do better, to what extent is that a function of them having married? We don't know. Do married couples do better because the had a marriage ceremony or are the kind of people who would do better more likely to get married? Chicken and egg. Lotsa questions.

Pat solutions are so comfy.

So, how is your conclusion actionable? All we have to do to fix this problem is march all our parents through city hall? Yep, that'll do it.
