I hate to give Microsoft credit. First, it gets more than its fair
share. Second, I get sick of reading mail claiming that anyone who
agrees with Microsoft on any subject whatsoever is a bribe-taking Nazi
communist pus-bag. But Corel's decision to backtrack on its Java
commitment lends credence to Microsoft claims that Java isn't
everything it's cracked up to be. My take: Would you drive over a
cliff just because you didn't care for the guy who yelled a warning?
Like it or not, Microsoft may be right

What do you think Corel is up to? Are you using Java?

Let's see what Java has done for Corel so far: a) Spent a lot of time;
b) Spent a lot of money; c) Got something worse than before; d) Looks
like a fool.

In fairness, it's unclear just what Corel is up to. I have information
the company isn't abandoning Java. Instead, it is re-architecting its
systems to serve up Java components from a central Java server. It may
be that Corel simply used Java the wrong way. It tried to use this
new-fashioned tool to build an old-fashioned monolithic mega-monster
suite.
