"Al Qaeda" is now an all-encompassing term for Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. The centrally organized movement called Al Qaeda, which existed before 9/11/01, is long gone. Primarily because of the widely-supported, entirely-justified, supported-by-me US invasion of Afghanistan.

The best way to combat what remains, i.e. widespread and decentralized Islamic fundamentalist terrorism, is to quit pissing those dudes off. They have a perfect right to run their own barbaric medieval societies in peace. As that nice Mr. Allawi said in the past few days, "we have different laws. We chop off hands and ears".

"Not pissing them off" means, for example: not unilaterally invading Muslim countries which pose no real threat to anybody; not favoring Israel over the Palestinians so blatantly that it dismays almost every other country in the world; and probably looking up the word "crusade" in a decent dictionary.

My impression is that Kerry understands this internationalist, multilateralist perspective better than GWB. Do you disagree with any of the above?
