Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That's certainly a key to the Republican's success, they've mobilizes the religous folks to come out and vote for them. I guess it's just hard for me to see Bush the way these religous folks see Bush. They see him as a Christian and a moral leader. I don't see that at all. I see him as an amoral, manipulative leader, who uses things like religion to further his political career. His amorality was demonstrated by the way he misled us into a war with Iraq and has misused our military for economic purposes, perhaps even increasing the threat of terrorism in the process.
I don't see anything particularily moral about what we're doing in Iraq. We've committed unspeakable atrocities over there. Over 10,000 Iraqi citizens have died as a result of our liberation. We did, after all, support that same vicous Saddam Huessein for years until it wasn't convient to do so. So, our moral stand against him seems to ring hollow. Also, $200 Billion is a lot of money to spend on other countries no matter what the circumstances are. I'd think god would want George Bush to spend that money in America, feeding, clothing and housing our poor people, not destroying other countries. If George Bush isn't amoral, our domestic and foreign policies certainly are. They're motivated by economic considerations, not moral ones. |
