Klien Fit for France after Freak Incident
Tuesday June 29th, 2004
Jaguar's Christian Klien has declared himself fit for Sunday's French Grand Prix after slicing a finger in a freak accident last week.
"It was quite painful in the beginning because I cut off the top of the first finger on the right hand," said the Formula One rookie, who suffered the injury when he picked up a brake cooling fan in the team garage.
"It's getting better now and I will be fit for the weekend, no problem," he told the team website on Tuesday.
Klien has yet to score a point in nine races for the Ford-owned team, who are last but one in the championship.
Jaguar replaced underperforming Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia last season and team managing director David Pitchforth said last week that, with hindsight, it might have been better for Klien to have remained a test driver this year.
However the driver, heavily backed by sponsor Red Bull, said he was not concerned.
"I absolutely pay no attention to what happened to Antonio and I don't feel under any pressure from the team," he said. "We have a very good relationship and I'm getting quicker and quicker with every race.
"I was very close to Mark (Webber) in the last two races and quicker than him in Canada so it looks very good at the moment." |
